Our courses qualify for annual CPD points

We have developed a range of roll on roll off courses, all of which meet the annual CPD requirement, beginning at Elementary level, through to Intermediate level, and progressing to Advanced. 

The courses are aimed at students who are passionate about Equine Care and are motivated to learn and apply foot trimming protocols working through all levels to become competent Equine hoof Care Practitioners. Each course level builds on a sound foundation of knowledge, ranging from basic surface anatomy to deep anatomy focusing on form and function through to gait analysis and amelioration of common foot ailments.

Elementary

Suitable for a range of level three learners including farriery students these courses take advantage of new technologies, organizing the theoretical aspects of farriery through an online platform. These courses will cover basic anatomy, physiology and farriery theory including injury and diseases where we will help you develop your knowledge and learning style towards achieving formal qualification through your own national bodies or associations.

Intermediate

Intermediate level courses are designed for those working towards formal qualifications such as the Certified Journeyman or Worshipful Company Diploma Level type awards. These courses are also suited to experienced farriers and hoof care professionals wanting to return to education to develop their knowledge and skills towards higher qualifications. these courses offer a revision of the basic theoretical elements whilst advancing the knowledge to meet current requirements for testing.

Advanced

Advanced level course materials are designed for those seeking further knowledge in anatomy, physiology pathology of diseases and developing critical thinking skills for designing and implementing farriery treatment plans to ameliorate common lameness’s and pathologies. The learning materials highlight the level of knowledge requirements at Associate level and beyond and should be a pre-requisite for students wishing to advance to associate, fellowship of academic diploma or degree level education.

Fundamental Horse Shoeing Building and Executing the Shoeing Plan

Learn the fundamental principles of building the shoeing plan.

This free to view 4 part course by Mark Caldwell PhD., FWCF., reviews the fundamental principles of building the shoeing plan. The course explores the basic principles of horseshoeing including conformational assessment, gait analysis, anatomical considerations, basic foot trimming protocols, shoe selection in relationship to shoeing style, attachment of the shoe and post shoeing static and dynamic assessment. The videos within this course were kindly produced by Alex Ridgeway Dip. WCF of Motion Horse. The elementary course is aimed at students with very little or no experience as a Hoof Care Practitioner and are motivated in training to attain the Elementary Level of qualifications or accreditation. Registered farriers need continual professional development (CPD)

Alongside our courses, we offer an affordale CPD course at £25 per month.

In this years CPD programme brings you a host of video tutorials on the causes, symptoms and farriery treatment protocols for a number of common pathologies including:- Navicular syndrome – Laminitis – Quarter Hoof Cracks.

In addition, past webinar recordings by internationally renowned speakers including:- Professor Mike Savoldi “Are common Foot Pathologies Predictive”, Jason Critton CJF of Colorado USA on “Shoeing the Sports horse for artificial arena surfaces”, Dr; Mark Caldwell discussing “The Use of inshore Prosthetics” and The Hoof Architect webinar on “recognising and managing conformation and posture”.
