SUMMARY:Focus On The Steward Clog and Variations
DESCRIPTION:A clinical case evaluation of therapeutic shoeing system for laminitis using a Steward clog and a hoof cast In-Vivo. The main goals in the treatment of biomechanical effects in acute or chronic laminitis is to reduce pain\, prevent or minimise damage to the laminae\, and to prevent or reduce the amount of mechanical collapse to the dermal and epidermal structures of the foot. Steward clogs or wooden shoes and a hoof cast are often used as a therapeutic shoeing system for acute laminitis\, Type I and Type II chronic and founder it is commonly believed that this treatment limits mechanical stress on the laminal digitalisation zone by achieving central support and reducing leverage of the hoof wall. This clinic will review the case history of an ongoing case of chronic founder\, describing its clinical and radiographic history as well as review the selection and application procedures used in the ongoing treatment plan. This review will be foloowed up with a demonstration of the correct application procedures for the clog and hoof cast treatment protocol. attendees will have the oppertunity to experiance hands on application of various systems with the aid of cadaver limbs. \nHighlights Course delivered in person only \nSuitable for All levels of farriers\, apprentices\, veterinary surgeons and veterinary students Duration – Full day \nDescription An excellent oppertunity to learn the procedures and practices of applying the clog treatment system for the farriery treatment of this dibilatating disease. \nThe wooden clog and its variations have become a treatment of choice for many and when applied correctley can prove extreemly analgeasic. the course will highlight several different methods of non traumatic application of this unique system. Participents will have the oppertunity for hands on application and to discuss clinical aspects of lamanitic case management as well as explore radiographic evaluation/ Hands on Ticket: Ideal for farriers\, physios or anyone who’d like to get hands on. The clinic intends to support your knowledge of those text book pictures\, transporting into a practical and tangible understanding of how  structures and the mechanics work and how foot trimming protocols this can impact your decisions made in selection and application of the clog system can imact on the case. Getting hands on\, during the day will allow you experiance the most efficient way possible for non traumatic application. This event qualifies for CPD and you are encouraged to register your CPD points. Lunch and refreshments included. Couse Tutor Dr. Mark N. Caldwell PhD.\, FWCF \nAll registered attendees will receive a free copy of Scientific Horshoeings E- Book by Peter Hircock on the impications of the clog and cast treatment system \n \nSuported by our educational partners
